PutSpot Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 19, 2026
Last updated: August 17, 2026

Privacy at a glance

  • Your inventory stays on your device by default. Item names, photos, documents, and reminders are stored locally unless you turn on optional cloud sync or sharing.
  • PutSpot does not run a content cloud for your inventory and does not upload your library to MayRainSoftware servers.
  • On-device processing (photo suggestions, document scanning, QR lookup) stays on your phone or tablet; we do not receive that content for those features.
  • Optional features you control: Google Drive or iCloud sync, encrypted file sharing or same-Wi-Fi device transfer, place QR labels, local reminders, App Lock, friend bonus codes, and Pro purchases.
  • Ads on the free plan: only user-initiated rewarded ads when you choose to watch one (for example for extra capacity). No banner, interstitial, or app-open ads.
  • We do not intentionally send item names, photos, documents, or search text to Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics.

This Privacy Policy explains how MayRainSoftware (“we”, “us”, “our”) processes personal data in the PutSpot mobile application (the “App”). It is written for users worldwide. Where local laws give you additional rights (for example in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Türkiye, California, or elsewhere), those rights also apply.

Operating-system permission prompts (for example camera or microphone) are technical authorizations and are not the same as a legal basis for processing under privacy laws.

1. Data controller and contact

Data controller: MayRainSoftware
App: PutSpot
Contact: support@mayrainsoftware.com

2. What PutSpot does

PutSpot helps you save and find where household items are stored. Optional cloud backup or sync, encrypted sharing, place QR labels, item documents, local reminders, App Lock, Pro purchases, and rewarded ads are described below. PutSpot may also use technical diagnostics and configuration services in production, as described in section 3.12. We do not create a PutSpot user account on our own servers for your inventory.

3. Data we collect and process

3.1. Content you create (on-device by default)

When you use the App, you enter or generate information stored on your device unless you turn on optional sync or sharing:

This data is kept in the App’s private on-device storage, protected by your device and operating system.

3.2. Camera, system pickers, microphone, and speech recognition

When you grant permission or use a system picker:

Depending on your device, speech recognition may run on-device or through your operating-system provider’s service. PutSpot does not upload or store your speech audio on MayRainSoftware servers.

3.3. On-device image, text, and document analysis

Photos may be processed on your device for item-name suggestions (Google ML Kit OCR and labeling; optional Pro ONNX models). Document scanning uses on-device services (Google ML Kit Document Scanner on Android, Apple VisionKit on iOS). PutSpot does not upload your photos or scans to MayRainSoftware servers for these features.

3.4. Place QR labels and links

PutSpot can create printable QR labels for saved places and scan them to open the matching place on your device.

A QR label does not contain your item list or photos. It carries a link with a random place identifier so PutSpot can find the corresponding place on your device. Scanning and matching happen locally; we do not download your inventory from our servers. You choose when to create, print, or share a label; a printed label may also show the place name you entered.

If the App is not installed or a link opens in a browser, a landing page on putspot.mayrainsoftware.com may be requested. Standard web access logs (for example IP address and client information) may be recorded and are handled like other hosting logs in section 3.13.

3.5. Optional local reminders and notifications

PutSpot schedules local notifications for reminders you create and, when enabled, warranty alerts. PutSpot does not operate a remote push-notification server for your inventory.

Notification delivery requires permission you grant to the App. A notification may show the reminder title you entered and, for warranty alerts, the related item name. Reminder records may sync if you enable cloud backup / sync; the actual notification schedule is managed locally on each device. You can disable reminders in the App or turn off notifications in Settings → Privacy & Permissions and your device’s system settings.

3.6. Optional cloud backup and sync

You may keep a copy of your library with Google Drive or Apple iCloud when you enable sync:

Cloud copies live under Google’s or Apple’s privacy policies. PutSpot does not operate a separate MayRainSoftware content cloud for your inventory.

3.7. Encrypted share packages and same-Wi-Fi device transfer

Encrypted file share (.putspotshare)

When you export a share package, selected content (including items, places, photos, and optionally documents, reminders, and commercial fields) is encrypted on your device. A transfer code is required to open the package. The file is not uploaded to MayRainSoftware servers. You choose how to send it; whoever receives the file and code can import the content.

Same-Wi-Fi device transfer

When you send to another PutSpot device on the same Wi-Fi, the receiving device shows a QR code. The sending device uses the camera to scan it, then transfers the encrypted package over the local network. PutSpot does not use Bluetooth or Google Nearby Connections for this transfer, does not use location APIs to find devices, and does not upload the package to MayRainSoftware servers. The receiving device must accept the incoming share before import. On iOS, the system may ask for Local Network access when the sender first connects.

3.8. Single-item system sharing

When you share one item through the system share sheet, the item name, location text, and (if available) the photo or an attached document go to the app you choose. Sharing is user-initiated.

3.9. App Lock and biometrics

If you enable App Lock, a PIN and/or device biometrics may unlock the App. App Lock restricts opening PutSpot; it is not file-level encryption. PutSpot receives only the authentication result from the operating system and does not store your fingerprint or facial template.

3.10. Purchases and free-tier capacity

PutSpot Pro is sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not collect your full payment card details. On the free tier, watching a user-initiated rewarded ad may grant additional local capacity.

You can also share or enter a friend code or thank-you code. Friend and thank-you codes are processed on your device and are not sent to a server for analytics. Code-free usage events (for example that a friend code was redeemed) may be processed by the App’s existing analytics system.

3.11. Advertising

On the free tier, PutSpot shows only user-initiated rewarded ads through Google AdMob when you choose to watch one. PutSpot does not show banner, interstitial, or app-open ads, and does not display ads automatically when you open the App.

Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) may be used for consent where required. Depending on your region and advertising privacy choices, Google AdMob may use data such as advertising identifiers to personalize ads. Where available, you can limit this through Settings → Privacy & Security → Advertising privacy options and your device or Google advertising settings. Pro users may be exempt from ads.

3.12. Diagnostics, analytics, and remote configuration

In production, PutSpot uses Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, and Remote Config separately from your item library. These services process limited technical information (for example which parts of the App are used, installation identifiers, crash reports, app version, and region) to improve reliability and deliver configuration such as feature rollouts.

We configure Analytics and Crashlytics not to include item names, place names, photos, document contents, reminder titles, serial numbers, search text, share contents, transfer codes, friend codes, or thank-you codes.

3.13. Model downloads and web hosting

The App may download Pro model files from mayrainsoftware.com. Standard network information may appear in server logs. Place-link landing pages (section 3.4) may generate similar logs. These logs are normally retained for up to 30 days, then deleted or rotated unless longer retention is required by law or abuse investigation.

3.14. Permissions summary

Depending on features you use, the App may request: camera; system photo or file pickers (only what you select); microphone / speech recognition; notifications; Face ID / biometrics; and on iOS, local network when you send a share to another PutSpot device on the same Wi-Fi. Denying a permission limits the related feature.

4. How we use data

5. Legal bases

Where required (for example GDPR), processing may rely on contract performance, legitimate interests (security, debugging, proportionate analytics), consent (ads where required, optional sync, notifications where required), or legal obligation.

6. Third parties and service providers

Provider Purpose
Google (Firebase, AdMob, ML Kit, Google Sign-In / Drive, Play distribution and purchases) Analytics, crash reports, remote config, rewarded ads, sign-in, Drive sync, on-device ML and document scanning, where used
Apple (App Store, CloudKit / iCloud, system share, biometrics, VisionKit) Distribution, purchases, optional iCloud sync, on-device document scanning, where used
MayRainSoftware hosting (mayrainsoftware.com) Model downloads; place-link landing pages and access logs

Other apps you choose in the system share sheet receive only what you send.

7. International transfers

Service providers may process data outside your country (including the United States). Where required, transfers use adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses, or another recognized mechanism. Contact us for information about safeguards.

8. Retention

9. Security

Local data is stored in the App’s private on-device storage, protected by your device and operating system. App Lock limits who can open PutSpot; it is not separate file-level encryption. Share packages are encrypted on your device; the transfer code is required to open them. No method of mobile storage or transmission is 100% secure—protect your device unlock, transfer codes, and cloud-account access.

10. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your data, withdraw consent, or complain to a regulator.

In PutSpot you can:

Email support@mayrainsoftware.com. We can only act on data under our control.

11. Regional notes

11.1. European Economic Area and United Kingdom

You may have the rights in section 10, including complaint to your local authority. Legal bases are in section 5.

11.2. Türkiye (KVKK)

Personal data is processed for the purposes in this policy, in line with law and good faith, proportionately and only as long as necessary. Article 11 requests may be sent to the contact address above.

11.3. California and similar U.S. state laws

If applicable law gives you rights to know, access, delete, or correct personal information, or to opt out of certain advertising uses, you may contact support@mayrainsoftware.com.

Depending on your region and Advertising privacy options (and device / Google settings), Google AdMob may use data such as advertising identifiers to personalize ads. Where your law provides an opt-out, you can use those settings. We will not discriminate against you for exercising legal rights.

11.4. Other countries

Additional mandatory local rights apply where your law requires them.

12. Children

PutSpot is not directed at children under 13 (or the higher age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under that age.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, be communicated in the App or another suitable channel.

For questions about this policy, contact support@mayrainsoftware.com.
